Exit to Stories

Real Story ·

06/03/2024 — The first climb into Armenia: icy uphill mountain road, long hairpin bends, high altitude, and a darkening winter afternoon.

The Mountain Road

Not like Nepal. This fear was different.

I had driven mountain roads before, including Nepal. But this felt different. In Nepal, the frightening sections might feel like around 300 metres. In Armenia, the uphill road felt like one kilometre after another, with long hairpin bends.

The road was icy, the weather was cold, the altitude was high, and I could feel my fear rising inside the driver’s seat. I decided not to force myself to continue.

Kajaran

The first village became my stop.

I told myself: the first village I see, I will stop. That place was Kajaran. I parked Toyotaki at a petrol station that was no longer functioning, and I stayed there overnight from 06/03 to 07/03.

I stayed two days because I needed time to recover. It was not a mechanical repair. It was my mind and body healing from the fright of height, ice, and winter mountain road.

07/03/2024 — Still snowing in Kajaran. Tuzi stayed longer to calm down and recover before continuing the Armenia road.

English Memory Summary

The first Armenia road was a psychological test.

On 06 March 2024, after waiting at the Iran side for the Armenia e-visa, Tuzi finally entered Armenia. Toyotaki was x-ray scanned twice at customs, and by the time she left the border area it was already around 1pm.

The winter afternoon grew darker, and the road immediately became an icy mountain climb. The long uphill hairpin bends, high altitude, cold road surface, and Tuzi’s fear of heights made the first Armenia drive extremely frightening. She decided not to push further and stopped at the first village she could find: Kajaran.

She stayed overnight from 06/03 to 07/03 at a non-functioning petrol station in Kajaran, and needed the extra time to recover emotionally before continuing. On 07/03, it was still snowing.

Heart Statement

有些路不是车过不去,是心需要先停下来。

Armenia did not welcome me with an easy road. It asked me to climb first, then breathe.
